Southwark Pensioners Centre
Southwark Pensioners Centre is a community resource centre working to promote choice, opportunity and quality of life in retirement. The Centre provides advice on welfare rights and a range of other topics, an employment bureau for the over 50s including a handypersons register, a holiday service to a variety of UK destinations and holiday grants to offset the cost of the holidays. It runs regular art classes and courses in I.T. It produces a monthly newsletter, 'One in Five', that reaches 500 members, 25 groups and many other organisations working with older people.
The Centre provides meeting rooms for a variety of regular groups, meetings and events and free computer practice facilities and internet access for individuals. There is support and help for the groups that use the Centre and also for many groups across the borough. The Centre provides information on services, resources and opportunities locally and nationally. There are opportunities for volunteering and information on the range of opportunities locally.
The Centre runs shopping trips for housebound and less mobile pensioners every month.
