Purple Flag for Camberwell?

Update : Southwark News story 7 April 2011

Camberwell’s night time economy is an important element of its role as a thriving town centre, however effective management is required to ensure that a wide range of uses are encouraged and community safety is upheld.  One way of achieving a more coherent approach to the management of Camberwell’s night time economy is through the Purple Flag accreditation scheme. Consideration is currently being given to an application for accreditation for the Camberwell area.

We are holding an initial scoping event in Southwark Town Hall on Wednesday 23rd March 2011 from 6.00pm to 8.00pm to hear more about the Purple Flag scheme, and whether Camberwell would be a suitable area to apply for the accreditation.  Twenty invites have been sent out to licensees, however if you feel that your premises contributes significantly to the night time economy and would like to attend, please contact Rosanna Keogh at Southwark Council Licensing on 0207 525 5778.  There are limited spaces for this event, with licensees initially be given priority.

Part of the process involves the views people hold of the area.  We would therefore like you to complete a Purple Flag health check questionnaire. Your views would be appreciated, even if you are not involved in the event of the 23rd March.  The health check helps establish an initial view of the situation in the area and identify those issues which need further development.  A hard copy of the questionnaire is attached or alternatively  the questionnaire is available at www.towncentrehealthcheck.org.uk.  Log in with the user name Camberwell and with the password purpleflag.
