Poll
Question: Is the Government right to stipulate one mile as the maximum distance between Post Offices in urban high density areas such as Camberwell?
NO - Post Offices are an integral part of any shopping destination, and it is unrealistic to expect people to walk one mile to their local shopping area as part of their daily routine.   -1 (50%)
NO - Post Offices are becoming more relevant, not less, with the advent of globalisation, increased International post and payments.   -1 (50%)
NO - Government is wrong to analyse trading figures without looking at the distortion of the market by local planning and parking policies.   -0 (0%)
YES - let the market decide, even if it is a bit distorted by supermarkets having free parking thanks to local authority policies through the decades.   -0 (0%)
YES - I think we will be doing everything on the Internet soon anyway, and we should plan on the basis that every house owns a computer and printer powerful enough for these tasks, kept on during the day for convenience.   -0 (0%)

*** Peckham Road Post Office proposed branch closure ***

Can't type much I'm afraid as I have a broken arm :-(( but Peckham Road (Shenley Road) PO is proposed for closure.

Suggested alternatives are So'ton Way, Peckham High Street and (god help us all) Denmark Hill - I'd rather chew my good arm off than go and receive the miserable service they dish out there. Not that I feel strongly about this, you understand...

Full details of the area plan at www.postoffice.co.uk/networkchange

Closure would take place in June 2008.

Closing date for public consultation is 2 April: email consultation@postoffice.co.uk.

If you are very bad in this life, after it you will be sent to an exact replica of Denmark Hill Post Office to queue with the damned and the desperate for eternity.

If you are caught in a queue I can thoroughly recommend this for listening to and taking away the stress:

Tintagel   12:12   John Surman   Road To Saint Ives   Jazz

Terry Ryan, a local artist,  introduced me to this.

You gotta love Regenguru's survey on this one (I've translated for you all)

NO - Post Offices are an integral part of any shopping destination, and it is unrealistic to expect people to walk one mile to their local shopping area as part of their daily routine.

NO - Post Offices are becoming more relevant, not less, with the advent of globalisation, increased International post and payments.

NO - Government is wrong to analyse trading figures without looking at the distortion of the market by local planning and parking policies.  [BINGO: 'distortion' there's that single issue again PICK THIS ONE]

YES - let the market decide, even if it is a bit distorted by supermarkets having free parking thanks to local authority policies through the decades. [YOU SCUM!! By admitting you favour markets, you HAVE to admit to the single issue obsession above related to PARKING - clever]

YES - I think we will be doing everything on the Internet soon anyway, and we should plan on the basis that every house owns a computer and printer powerful enough for these tasks, kept on during the day for convenience. [DOUBLE SCUM: You can't believe we need a local post office less thanks to technology without also admitting you hate the poor and waste TONS of energy!! - clever again]

I think the forum might need a peace and reconciliation committee soon!  Agreed - even Regenguru must admit this survey is a joke.

I'm not sure if the post office has closed, because I've not been there recently.  It really did not deserve to stay open, with the poor service it provided.  It was never exactly the friendly village hub.  The fact that Camberwell main office is so shocking is something the forum could work on.  Last time I went in there, I was told (with considerable self righteous conviction) that they did not sell one or two pence stamps!
