Dear Everyone

A date for your diaries: On Saturday 2nd August 12-3.30pm, we will be hosting the first Southwark Freecycle Event in Castlemead, SE5 (Corner of Camberwell Road and Wyndham Road), as part of the Castlemead Family Day.

Southwark, like most of the other inner London boroughs, sends some of the Borough’s waste to landfill. 4,547 (and counting) members of the http://www.freecycle.org/group/UK/London/Southwark are slowly helping to change this. Your unwanted items could well be another's dream article, and you can not only make someone's day but also save an item from going to a landfill site.

Freecycle first started in 2003, in Arizona, with a very simple idea: instead of throwing away an unwanted but perfectly usable household item, why not give it to someone who needs it. For free. They have been changing the world one gift at a time ever since and now have millions of members worldwide.

What to do:

If you have item or items you would like to donate, you can do this on Thursday 31st July, Friday 1st August or Saturday 2nd August (between 10-11 am). Please contact me if you would like to arrange delivery on Thursday or Friday. Alternatively, turn up on Saturday between 10 and 11.

If you do not have anything to donate this time round, just come along for the event to have fun!

What to bring:

Bring only smallish items which can be easily carried by hand or on a bus such as, for example
- books
- DVDs
- CDs
- clothes (childrens', adult)
- bric-a-brac
- jewellery
- bedding/cushions
- picture frames/pictures/posters
- stationery/artists' materials
- decorating tools and materials (non-electrical)
- any other non-electrical household goods
- non-electronic musical instruments which are easy to carry
etc

What not to bring:

- electrical goods large or small
- furniture
- food
- large bulky items of any kind

At the moment, we do not have the facility to take electrical goods or large items, but, as we are planning to have the events on a regular basis, it is very likely that we will be able to do this in the future.

Getting there:

Castlemead is on the corner of Camberwell Road and Wyndham Road and it is easily accessible by any of the buses going between Camberwell Green to Elephant and Castle (12, 35, 40, 42, 45, 68, 171, 176, 468)

If at all possible, avoid using your car, as Camberwell Road is very busy at best of times and there is virtually no parking available in the nearby streets.

How you can help:

If any of you would like to spend some time (half an hour or longer) helping out on the stalls, please let me know as soon as you can.

If any of you would be able to print out/photocopy and distribute some flyers for the event, please get in touch.

The whole event will be a fun-packed day, with children's artwork exhibition, facepainting and a raffle, so come along for a browse and have fun!

I will send out another reminder about the event closer to time.

Thanks for all the support and help and I'll see you in August!

Ferguskane, consider yourself held Smiley

Would any of you be able to do some leafleting, or suggest good places to put the posters/leaflets up (we'll be leaving a few in Basic, the library, the pensioners' centre)

Any thoughts/help more than welcome, I can forward you the poster (works fine if printed in black & white)

Thanks everyone

We did it!

Thanks to everyone who helped out before and during the event itself, as well as everyone who donated things to be given away!

Pictures coming soon!

Thanks again & hopefully see some of you at one of the next events

Well done for organising this, pros, and I'm glad to hear it was a success. Couldn't make it along myself, but I did look out for you when I was going past on the 176.
