Arts 4 Human Rights

disPLACEment Festival

Arts 4 Human Rights presents disPLACEment Festival, 8th-15th May 2010.

From 8th-15th May 2010, disPLACEment highlights cases of misplaced identities. From the movement patterns of migrants to involuntary journeys, Arts 4 Human Rights' inauguaral festival raises questions found in those displaced.

Human trafficking, seeking asylum, artifical notions of equal opportunities and more shall be adressed through visual arts, spoken word, dance, film and talks.

In venues such as Nolia's Gallery, Art's Bar, and other locations in Camberwell, disPLACEment will feature works by Clinton De Menezes, Anna Jordan, Katherina Radeva, Inua Ellam and more.

“…(Clinton) de Menezes attempts to deconstruct and draw attention to society's markers of territory.” – Artthrob: Contemporary Art in South Africa

“…plays like jazz variations, beautifully orchestrated " – Observer, on Katherina Radeva

“…Anna Jordan is an interesting and exciting new voice in the theatre” – The Times

“London’s hottest new spoken word talent” –The Times, on Inua Ellam

Arts 4 Human Rights is a grassroots not-for-profit community organisation established and run entirely by volunteers with backgrounds in art, filmmaking, academia and more. They are interested in ways of using the arts to highlight international and local human rights and social justice. The primary aim is to challenge and involve local audiences with inventive, entertaining and provocative artwork, thereby offering them the opportunity to learn and understand more about human rights issues.

Art can tell stories. Art can inspire action. Art can cross boundaries.
