Albany Midwives Campaign Fundraising Film Screening: The Business of Being Born by Ricki Lake

An eye-poping, jaw-dropping documentatary about giving birth in the USA. Birthing in the USA is a billion dollar industry and it shows...women have very little say in how it all happens, midwifery is now becoming a dirty word... and its happening in England too.

Recently, a governmental review of midwifery and birthing in this country has been demanded. This has come about after a world respected midwifery practice based in Peckham had its contract violently terminated after one year of enquiries and accusations which were all unfounded. The Albany Midwives practice has been shut down by Kings even though it has been thoroughly evaluated twice. It has a far lower Caesarean section rate than King’s College Hospital (14.4% compared with 24.1%) and a far lower perinatal mortality rate (4.9/1000 compared with 11.4/1000) for Southwark Borough as a whole. 8pm/donations accepted on the door (suggested donations £5)
