Dear Mr Mayor
South London Line - planned cessation of services
We are writing as a very large number of Community Groups and
cross-party elected representatives to ask you to receive a small
deputation to discuss the future of the South London Line.
TfL Rail are giving you an unbalanced briefing on the history of this
issue and we are concerned that you should accurately understand why
this service is important to the residents, employers and commuters in
South London.
You should appreciate that the decision to switch the funding for this
service towards the East London Line Phase II service was a direct
agreement between TfL Rail and DFT. It ran contrary to previous
commitments to divert the South London Line to Bellingham-Victoria when
the ThamesLink works reduced capacity at London Bridge Station. The
many supporters of the East London Line were not made aware that the
loss of the South London Line would be a consequence of supporting the
East London Line Phase II. These are not equivalent services and the
communities of South London are extremely angry to have been misled and
to be the victims of high handed and secretive decision making in this
way.
Will you please find half an hour in your busy schedule to meet us for a
short discussion? We also have a large and growing petition, which we
would like to hand to you in person.
Yours sincerely
